Japanese Retailers See Mixed Nov. Comps

TOKYO-Retailers in Japan saw mixed sales in November, as cold weather buoyed sales of winter items, while construction projects and one fewer Sunday compared with the same month last year bit into some companies' revenue.
Fast Retailing said Friday that same-store sales at its Uniqlo outlets in Japan grew 7.3 percent on the year. Customer numbers were up by 4.1 percent, while the average purchase per customer increased by 3 percent.

Zumiez reports 4 percent rise in Q3 comparable sales

Total net sales at Zumiez for the third quarter ended October 29,
2016 increased 8.4 percent to 221.4 million dollars from 204.3
million dollars in the quarter ended October 31, 2015. Comparable sales
increased 4 percent compared to a decrease of 7.3 percent for the same
period last year. Net income for the quarter increased to 10.7 million
dollars or 0.43 dollar per diluted share, compared to 9.7 million dollars
or 0.36 dollar in the third quarter of the prior fiscal year.

Uniqlo Japan November same-store sales up 7.3 percent

November 2016 same-store sales at Uniqlo Japan, a part of Fast Retailing
Group, increased by 7.3 percent year on year while sales at its own stores
excluding online sales increased by 7.7 percent and total sales including
online sales increased by 7.8 percent.
The company said, same-store sales increased 7.3 percent year on year in
November, due to consistently cold weather throughout the month and a
strong anniversary sale towards month-end. During the month under review,
the company closed one Uniqlo store in Japan.

Gap blames challenging conditions for November sales decline

Gap net sales for the four-week period ended November 26, 2016 were 1.53
billion dollars compared with 1.57 billion dollars for the same period last
year. Comparable sales were down 1 percent versus an 8 percent decrease
last year. The company estimated that the Fishkill distribution centre fire
negatively impacted its November comparable sales by approximately 3
percentage points.
